The Dubai-based luxury e-commerce platform announced the news on social media on April 2, citing the "global crisis" as the reason behind the decision.
Founded in 2017, the company was one of the pioneers of the modest fashion movement. It provided a curated edit of stylish, luxury fashion to those seeking modest threads.
Founded by Ghizlan Guenez, The Modist made waves across the fashion industry. It was called the Net-a-Porter of modest clothing and the company was named one of the most innovative companies in the Middle East by US magazine Fast Company.
"It is with a heavy heart we share with you that The Modist is permanently closing its virtual doors today," reads the Instagram post.
Over its short lifespan, The Modist's brand recognition became synonymous with luxury modest dressing. Its success earned Guenez a place on the BOF 500 list, a grouping of the fashion industry's game-changing players.
The social media post also touched on the current situation in the world due to the spread of the coronavirus.
"Here at The Modist we have witnessed the powers of our own community coming together from all over the glove to support each other and are hopeful that this time will make us all stronger and more united," it ends.
