Careem launches bus service in Cairo
Careem has launched a new service, Careem Bus, with an initial launch in Cairo in a separate application from its ride-hailing service.
Customers will be able to choose the pick up and drop off location of buses on their route, with the ability to track the bus as it arrives. Fares will be fixed at a set rate of 60-70 per cent less than that of the Careem car service.
The service will initially start out with 13-seater air-conditioned buses and several bus stops located throughout Cairo’s main landmarks.
The application currently allows cash payments only but payments through the Careem wallet will be available soon.
“Customers now expect the same high-tech experience across all products and services they engage with - why shouldn’t taking a bus be as seamless as ride hailing a car?” Hadeer Shalaby, director of Careem Bus said. “Research conducted by Careem revealed 40 per cent of the Egyptian population is not being adequately served by a transportation service that suits their needs and the situation was getting worse.”
Careem plans to expand its bus service soon to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
