Workers’ safety and tracking device WakeCap raised $300K
WakeCap, raised $300,000 from CCC (Consolidated Contractors Company), a construction group with projects across Middle East, Asia and Africa.
The investment is part of $1.5 million round that WakeCap aims to close in the next six months.
WakeCap is a safety and tracking device attached to standard construction helmets that workers simply wear to provide management and decision makers with real-time, cloud-based visibility into each worker’s daily attendance, live-location and accidents, as well as to enable a two-way alerting system for workers to report hazards on the spot and receive easy evacuation alerts.
Apart from this $300,000, the startup already has commitments for another $400,000 from some regional and international VCs.
“Being the largest construction company here, one of our main pillars of focus is safety and when we looked at startups in the construction industry we found WakeCap,” said Aref Boualwan, manager of MIS and business process reengineering at CCC. “As we got to know more about the product we realized that it has serious impacts on productivity and impact over
reducing overheads so we decided to implement and run a pilot with WakeCap.”
The partners will also be leveraging WakeCap’s infrastructure to jointly develop customized use cases to meet the needs of CCC workers. One of the feature being developed is a live heat map enabled by WakeCap’s sensors to help workers manage heat-stress during the summer season.
“Plenty of innovation is taking place at the office front of construction but only a few teams are tackling the mega-dynamic onsite operations to control the rampant labour costs and improve the lacking safety measures. At WakeCap we envisioned a fully digital, automated and connected construction site,” Hassan Albalawi, CEO and founder of WakeCap explained. He added: “This unexplored path is paved with challenges that CCC’s unrivaled scale, geographically diversified projects and appetite for innovation will help us overcome. By piloting WakeCap in one of their
prime projects in Dubai, CCC site supervisors and company management will be able to see where workers are on the jobsite and receive alerts to any safety issues in real-time. This level of visibility and actionable data helps them proactively improve safety, protect their workers, and achieve greater productivity.”
