Ecommerce and MENA's travel sector boom [Infographic]
It’s no secret that ecommerce in the Middle East and North Africa has grown substantially in the past few years. According to Visa, online transactions in the region are growing at an annual rate of 30%, with nearly half of all ecommerce transactions being made outside the consumers’ home countries.
MENA’s travel sector has benefitted substantially from this growth, with airline and travel agency bookings in Lebanon, Qatar and Saudi Arabia jumping by more than 50% in 2014.
But the UAE - where 36% of online transactions are made through a mobile phone - continues to lead the region in overall ecommerce growth.
